Title: Modding the GUI, how to do it and how hard would it be?
Post by: Kettu on March 09, 2007, 11:18:10 AM
Now the only thing bothering me with the game after almost 10 years is that the high resolutions are unusable. How would i convert the GUI graphics in some format photoshop recognises? Is it to make the game use the smaller GUI elements? I just don't know where to start here, any help will be greatly appreciated. I'm pretty sure everyone with a bigger monitor would appreciate this fix.

Unfortunately its an engine limitation that there isn't high res changes to the GUI for high res settings.  All the engine does is scale up the existing 800x600 images.

There are limitations on colours (64K i think is max) that can be used and max dimensions of the GUI images used (.mos filetype).

Effectively while you can rearrange the GUI and make some changes to the dimensions of things contained within the GUI we will never be able to fully convert it for proper use at high resolutions.  The engine just doesn't support it.

That being said GemRB (http://forums.gibberlings3.net/index.php?showforum=91) should give us some hope.
