Title: Bug reports - v15
Post by: Andyr on May 07, 2006, 02:59:46 PM
Please post any bug reports here.

If your bug is in relation to a component not installing in a non-English language, let us know what the error message is. :) I have been assured by translators that the translations are up to date, so hopefully there'll be no language issues...

I don't know if this really counts as a "bug", per se, but I think it would be nice if Hurg and Jealos(?) from the Spider's Bane component didn't actually spawn until Paina's quest starts.  I didn't head to that area the first time I went into the sewers and when I got back to do Paina's quest they were hostile.  I had to control-Y them and use the console to bypass the issue.  I think the reason they went hostile was that one of the Lightning bolts I used at the beholder spawn point must have hit them .  I never knew about it because they were off-screen at the time and I left the way I came in.

I did the Extended Illithum quest, talking to Unger's brother, sent him back, and got to the point where Unger should tell me it was stolen. But when I talk to him, all it says is "There ye are. Me dear, sweet, thick-headed brother returns" then I hit continue, and it closes the dialogue and if I try to speak to Unger, all it says is "Unger Hilldark has nothing to say to you"

Oh, yes. And I tried many things to see if it would change..different conversation choices, taking more time to return, the like. All to a very frustrating no avail.

Pa'Nai casts True Sight and goes hostile as soon as she gives me her quest to find the Spider Bane sword.

Hi! I tried to instal UB using polish translation, but the installer keeps displaying some kind of error and stops the instalation. English wersion works just fine, and if nothing else I'll use it, non the less I would appreciate any suggestions on how to fix this problem.

P.S. Cut DEBUG file for UB if it helps:

The Polish translation I was given was incomplete, so you will have to install that component in English. You can do this by quitting the installer, and when re-running selecting the English option. I have since been given an updated Polish translation so hopefully you won't experience the problem in the future. :)

I hope to get a new version, with updated translations, released in the not-too-distant future.

I am consistently getting two Arbane's Sword when playing without the Suna Seni relationship, since she has one and the beefy fighter in her group also has one.  Thus, with the relationship not installed, both she and the other fighter drop one each after the between area ambush.

I assume that this is due to the sword being given to the other fighter, so that it can still be found early, if she is not with the ambush crew.  Getting two of them, in any event however, seems a bit much.  Shouldn't the duplicate Arbane's NOT be given to the other fighter, if Suna Seni is going to participate in the ambush?  Also, when you get two, one has the Haste ability and the other is "used", so that one appears to be worth only one GP [although this is fixed by resting of course], but it seems odd that the two identical swords are in different states when you find the two of them....

Also, I assume that the unkillable trolls associated with the Boo quest is a bug?  Is it going to be fixed?  If it isn't a bug, then I gotta say it is sure no "enhancement".  Truth be told, the whole "oops wrong spell" aspect of the mod didn't strike me as an improvement, even if it does allow you to get Flame Tongue and Belm really quick, if you figure out how to avoid the unkillable trolls.

i also dont have suna seni component installed and i get 2 arbanes swords
what is even more strange if i go for volygar quest the servant in his home in docks tells me to go find suna seni in copper coronet!!!! (what the hell?)
im 100% sure i didnt install suna seni componet (i can paste my weidu log),
or maybe he is saying this even without this component?, but how to find her if she is already dead? of course she in not in copper coronet

as for trolls i have the same problem, but i belive this is due to bg3 "fixpack" if you also have this installed than it has nothing to do with UB and minsc quest, it is already reported on g3 forum

right and what about volygar and suna seni? is it a bug or it is as it should be?

It's also worth noting that sending the player to the Druid Grove before they've visited Trademeet is generally Not A Good Thing. I would cast my vote for the previous behavior of the spell to be restored.

All the different Town Criers are changed into one and the same dude - "Town Crier Neckeith", who has the same thing to say regardless of where you talk to him. He has no useful information as far as I can tell.

I figured out UB was causing it by looking in translatiosn/english/ubsetup.tra.

Thanks for the report; will look into it and fix. :)

As an aside, can you post which other mods you have installed?

All the different Town Criers are changed into one and the same dude - "Town Crier Neckeith", who has the same thing to say regardless of where you talk to him. He has no useful information as far as I can tell.

I figured out UB was causing it by looking in translatiosn/english/ubsetup.tra.

Are you certain about that? As far back as I can remember, there has always been just the one town crier in my games, popping up everywhere like some short, scary stalker. (And though I can't remember exactly, since I see no need to talk to him/them, this was the case long before I ever installed any version of UB.) Then again, I'm frequently wrong.

What I am guessing has happened (though am away from mod stuff so can't check) is that the name of the carbon-copy creatures, rather than the creature files themselves, are being changed.

This would be part of the restorations of names of minor characters or whatever the component's called. All the town criers are "Neckeith," but I always assumed they were indeed copies of the same creature, even beofre he had a name. It ends up looking weird with this one NPC because he's all over the place.

As for what he says, I've never really talked to him since my first game, but he used to have a bunch of different random-generated stories to tell, none of them particularly relevent to your quests. Sort of a BBC World Service for Athkatla. If he keeps saying the same thing over indefinitely, maybe something has gone wrong, but it may also just be a coincidence of rolls. Depends how many times you talked to him.

I thought he just had the one comment about the specific district where you met him? That's why I "discounted" him* and never bothered after discovering he was a rather pointless tour guide. If he has more than that to say, I think I'm going to have a chat with him, in all his forms, just for fun.

*/ yeh, reading olde books at the moment and finding fun words

I always assumed it was meant to be different town criers over the city with BioWare lazily making them say the same stuff (since IIRC their colours are randomly generated for each instance) as opposed to the same guy stalking you.
Title: Re: Bug reports - v15
Post by: Bex on July 30, 2006, 11:55:18 AM
I've never, ever seen the town crier wear any colour other than red.

And his stories are about far-off lands like Maztica, not local troubles at all.
Title: New Saemon bug
Post by: berelinde on July 30, 2006, 12:16:06 PM
OK, this is oddness. I've played through Spellhold a bunch of times, and this is the first I've seen this.

Got out of Spellhold OK: Saemon teleported everybody out, made it back to the Vulgar Monkey, met Saemon there, got the Sea Horn, or whatever--the shell--and went back to the Vulgar Monkey. Told Saemon we had the horn, and then it got weird.

The Saemon/Desharik exchange took place there, in the Vulgar Monkey, without Cayia or the preliminaries. Odd, I thought. Now what? So I went down to the dock where we usually meet Saemon, and he isn't there. No fight with Desharik's men, nothing.

How am I going to get off Byrnllaw? I suppose I could console the party to City of Caverns. I wouldn't mind missing that bit of conflict, and I don't really need the silver sword, but if I did console the party there, would the initial encounter with the "benevolent" sahuagin priestess still happen?
Title: Re: Bug reports - v15
Post by: Bex on July 30, 2006, 12:30:29 PM
I suggest you reload, as you should not be meeting Saemon in the Vulgar Monkey with the horn. At that point, you ought to be meeting him down in the docks. Go see if he spawns there (he's hard to spot because there's rigging in the way).

If he's not there, console yourself PPSAEM3 (iirc), talk to him, and see how it goes. I occasionally have ended up with two silver sword blades from doing it this way, but I always get where I'm going.

You might want to make sure you've cleared your cache too, just as a precaution against triggers failing due to corrupt cached areas.

Post by: berelinde on July 30, 2006, 12:33:47 PM
That explains it. I went to the docks first, but he wasn't there, so I tried the VM. Oh, well. I'm going to have to start from the autosave, anyway, since I tried consoling in another horn and this time wound up hung up in a cutscene. I feel a berserker rage coming on. OK. Not really ;D

I don't think it's the G3 Fix pack that creates the unkillable trolls, because I got them on this playthrough and I'm not using the G3 Fix Pack :)

I had a problem with unkillable trolls in Nalia's keep when I used the G3 Fix Pack. I reinstalled the whole game and used badlurdash instead (potentially unkillable enemies is not something that I like). When I reloaded the old savegame I could kill the troll this time, so I thought it was the G3 Fix Pack that was to blame. But to be sure it wouldn't happen again, I started the game over again (I hadn't played for very long anyways). This time the killing of trolls in Nalia's keep went fine, but it does not when I am teleported to the druid groove. The trolls here are unkillable just like the troll in Nalia's keep when was before. And again, I'm not using the G3 Fix Pack, so it can't be to blame.

And besides, I agree that the "oops wrong spell" stuff was a really really bad idea, because it screws up the druid quest.

Not anymore, no. When I posted that, I thought it might have had something to do with saving Sanik, but it seems to be more of a general thing, but confined to Saemon and Phaere.

At this point, I'm going to attribute it to transient weirdness.

BGhead: Do you believe this Spellhold issue is UB-related?
The "handing the Horn over in the Vulgar Monkey" issue is fairly common, and most likely not the fault of any mods--it appears to be the result of the party leaving the Vulgar Monkey <i>before</i> Saemon can make it to the door, resulting in the game never placing him in the docks down below.

In my Mac Game I got a CTD with the message "An assertion failed in CGameEffect.cpp at line number 1536" when I entered the Copper Coronet for the first time. After uninstalling the Suna Seni/Valgar Relationship and Restored Minor Dialogs components everything worked OK. And I remember the same issue with Azuredge. Any ideas what's going on?

I'm notoriously lazy and also forgets my sources almost at once, but I do know that this exact problem was discussed over at Gibberlings 3, and the consensus seemed to be forming that it had to with some item Suna Seni dragged around. Not sure if the latter is part of UB, but the Suna/Valygar line stood out.

Ii've got a potential bug.  I completed the Circus quest and exited the tent.  I waited for Myara (sp?) to show for the Kalah quest, but she never did.  Same thing too for the boy whose mother I rescued; he never appeared either.  The guard did recognize me and got rewarded.  I have the latest Fixpack and UB installed.  What's weird is that IIRC the Kalah quest started without problems on the previous game.

Boo plot: little timmy was in the docks from the begginig (as I understand he should have been spawned there only after boo disappears) and thus Minsc said nothing to timmy when passing near him, only after I approached him (which also got me stuck a bit with the plot at first)
(though at my brother's game, he was at the docks from the begginig, but minsc acted as he should and pointed on billy when he passed by hi,)

Suna seni plot: appears at the corrent from the beggining and when I accepted valygar to my group (from his house at the docks not from the cabin in the Umar hills) she suddenly appeared at his house on the 2nd floor, where we were, and started the conversation with him which I presume should have happened at the corrent when we meet her there with val. Also his servent at his house didn't mention about suna as a source to the wherabouts of val (but he did in my brother's game).

This is not really a bug, but it is an oddity.  I am doing the Illithium quest, and completed the Shade Lord quest a while ago, including killing the dragon. However, the dialog with Gorge doesn't recognize that fact, and refers to monsters and the "beastie below," despite the fact that they are all dead.  It doesn't matter, but it would be more realistic if Gorge recognized that all te enemies there were dead.

I see that the Gorje Hilldark and the Extended Illithium Quest still crashes the game when trying to enter the Copper Coronet! If I uninstall this component I can enter. Fortunately some other guy reported this before in version 14 or I would have to spend hours trying to figure out what component or mod was causing it.

Hi

I just tried to find Gorge Hilldark in the temple by the unopenable door (1200:1900), but he's not there. You didn't move him did you? I know something like this got fixed in version 8, but I do have a fair number of mods so there's probably very little point in finding the culprit. I spawned him in, CLUAConsole:CreateCreature("Gorje"), which worked OK.

Cheers

I have found a few erroneous text references that I believe are part of UB.  Allow me to describe what happened and what I did to help you determine what may or may not be the problem.

Toward the end of the game (late in Ch.6), I installed UB onto a officially patched SoA game.  Realizing I was squandering valuable XP, I finally installed ToB.  At first, this was a disaster as it wiped text on the SoA/ToB splash screen, etc.  I installed the ToB patch and the fixed the apparent problems.

Then I proceeded with the game, and noticed one or two text references to a Yakman when talking to Ellesime or someone else in the Elven city.  I reallyl didn't think anything of this at the time.  Later, I finished the game and restarted it with another character.

This time, I was paying closer attention and noticed a lot of erroneous text references, especially with the UB Magic Lamp quest, the little girl spoke with a fiends voice and had all kinds of nonsensicle test. .....................

At this point, I started over, reinstalled the ToB patch, then uninstalled/reinstalled the UB elements I wanted.  This time, the little girl was OK and the intended dialogue took place.  However, there were still a few erroneous text messages, four that I can think of thus far in my new game......................

1.  The Genie who needs his flask back and gives you the Sword of Chaos is named something like "put the torch there."
2.  The town crier found at the city gates and in the bridge district (elsewhere I also believe) has a yakman reference on his name scroll.
3.  The wizard Amon in the Seven Vales also has a screwed up name that's obviously intened as part of some other dialog.
4.  I don't remember exactly, but I think it was one of the assassians fighting the vampire in Irenicus' dungeon.

Thanx for this project!

Post by: Andyr on August 28, 2007, 12:13:41 PM
Thanks for this report--your text references being muddled is because you installed the expansion and official patch after the mod. The correct order should be:

- BG2
- ToB Expansion
- Official Patch
- Mods

It's not a mod issue; the way to solve it is to reinstall in the correct order. :)

Ayce,

I also have a problem with Malaaq not displaying his correct name though in my case the "name" is different. Something is making it off somehow. I can confirm that there is no way to fix it by simply uninstalling UB 2.

Title: Re: Bug reports - v15

I think it could be BGT related in your case, Salk--I don't see the problem here, and UB uninstallation would fix it. So it's either an install error (as likely in Ayce's case), or BGT, which you mentioned you were using.
Title: Re: Bug reports - v15

Andyr,

soon BGT 1.05 will be out and I will a thorough check with that and report to you.

But I can't help wondering if Ayce is also using BGT? Because the error reported by him/her does seem oh so much too similar to mine...
Title: Re: Bug reports - v15
Post by: Ayce on September 01, 2007, 10:33:37 PM
Ok, let me try to respond to everything here..............

1.  I'm not using BGT, as I said above, I was running a patched SOA game, installed ub during ch.6, then installed TOB as an afterthought.  There were significant problems at this point, so I patched TOB which seemed to solve most of them.  After starting a new game, I round these erroneous text references, so I uninstalled UB and reinstalled the components I wanted.

2.  Salk, at the time I discovered these errors, I only had ub installed, I have since installed questpack and have not noticed further errors.  Though when opening up some of the itm and spl files in ub/minsc with IEEPro, those files were clearly accessing some erroneous text references from the dialog.tlk.

3.  Andyr, I did uninstall and reinstall ub after the TOB patch, though I haven't tried a fresh install.   I suspect, the uninstall of ub didn't remove all of the errors in dialog.tlk and a fresh install might solve these issues.

BTW, I just finished the Boo kidnapped quest.  Very cute.  Eleanya was a well thought out character as meshed in seemlessly.  I do have a couple of questions/comments................

1.  What good is the boolet spell?  Other than sending the poor little hamster in as a distraction so monsters can slaughter it?  Am I missing something, or does boolet simply summon a sacrificial hamster?  In other words, why would I prefer the boolet spell (the supposed best reward according to the readme) over the jade figurine?  Seems to me the astral dog makes a better distraction than any hamster ever could......................

2.  The readme also stated you could get a bunch of gems as a reward, I haven't found this to be so, I've tried all of the dialog options (in so far as here riddles go) at this point, and I always get either 10,000 or 20,000 XP and either the jade figurine or the boolet spell.

3.  I done both Minsc and Kalah quests from ub now, both fit in quite seemlessly in so far as the stories go, but the associated artwork (item bams & description pics) leaves something to be desired, perhaps we can find an artist to create bams more in
the Black Isle style?  A minor point, the magic lamp and jade figurine icons are adequete, but don't really mesh with the style of the rest of the item bams in the game.  Again, a minor point.

I look forward to seeing what other suprises await me in ub!

Noticed that the usable icon for Boots of Hastened Depature was screwed up. A simple fix for this would be this in the tp2 file:-

COPY_EXISTING ~boot09.itm~ ~override/boot09.itm~       /* Boots of Hastened Departure */
WRITE_ASCII 0x76 ~IBOOT09~
SAY NAME2 @97
SAY IDENTIFIED_DESC @98

instead of this:

COPY_EXISTING ~boot09.itm~ ~override/boot09.itm~       /* Boots of Hastened Departure */
WRITE_ASCII 0x76 ~CBOOT09~
SAY NAME2 @97
SAY IDENTIFIED_DESC @98

Also, as I said, I tried uninstalling the mods, then reinstalling them after I reinstalled TOB +patch.  It didn't work.  Hence, I figure I'm just going to have to start over with a fresh install.  It's OK, sometimes it's good to start over and get the excess crap out of your system/game.  Adding/reediting custom items, etc. tends to create unwanted duplication in your overrider folder, dialog.tlk, etc.

I think it could be BGT related in your case, Salk--I don't see the problem here, and UB uninstallation would fix it. So it's either an install error (as likely in Ayce's case), or BGT, which you mentioned you were using.

Andyr,

please note that Ayce, who is not using BGT, is reporting a problem very similar to mine and uninstalling UB did not restore a functional game for neither of us. The problem would still be there and a clean installation would be the only way to get rid of it.

This means that this problem is unrelated to BGT and should be investigated because rather critical (like all bugs that remain after uninstalling its relative mod).

It must have something to do with the .tra as I hinted to you via email but I have not the skills to understand what it might be.  ;)
Title: Re: Bug reports - v15

Salk, Ayce's problem is definitely the install order which is why reinstalling UB didn't help. :) Whatever the cause of your error, if it is not an install order issue then I don't know what it is yet, but it is not the same as Ayce's.

Oh... If Ayce's problem is certainly the install order then I really wonder what mine is.

The Suna Seni component will "No Valid Replies Or Links" in Spellhold if you have both Aerie and Cernd:

~386 of ub/suna/u!suna.d:
Code: [Select]
IF ~~ THEN BEGIN SunaValUD1
  SAY @205
  IF ~!InParty("Aerie")
!InParty("Cernd")~ THEN GOTO SunaValUD2
  IF ~!InParty("Aerie")
InParty("Cernd")
!StateCheck("Cernd",STATE_DEAD)~ THEN EXTERN ~CERNDJ~ 106
  IF ~!InParty("Cernd")
InParty("Aerie")
!StateCheck("Aerie",STATE_DEAD)~ THEN EXTERN ~AERIEJ~ AerieSuna
END

With the current dialog structure, to get both interjections, go to Cernd before Aerie:
Code: [Select]
IF ~~ THEN BEGIN SunaValUD1
  SAY @205
  IF ~!InParty("Aerie")
!InParty("Cernd")~ THEN GOTO SunaValUD2
  IF ~!InParty("Cernd")
InParty("Aerie")
!StateCheck("Aerie",STATE_DEAD)~ THEN EXTERN ~AERIEJ~ AerieSuna
  IF ~InParty("Cernd")
!StateCheck("Cernd",STATE_DEAD)~ THEN EXTERN ~CERNDJ~ 106
END

EDIT: also, the E_B on cerndj (at ~50ish of ub/suna/u!suna.d) should EXTERN ~AERIEJ~ AerieSuna, and not AERIEJ 134 as it currently does (which points at Saemon's dialogue).

After entering Bridge District and speaking to Wilbur (whether or not I buy his scimitar) Lieutenant Aegisfiled spawns at the entrance to the location - even if I already finished the quest and he should be dead :) In my previous runs with UB I've never noticed that, but I don't remember if Wilbur spawned before or after solving the skinner murders.
I'll post weidu.log if needed.

Yup, I can confirm I also experienced this bug.

OMG, looks like I did again! I mean, confused DO Questpack with UB :) Sorry then, I'll go find their forum.

Hi, I installed UB, and I found it great, though I have a problem. I wanted to romance with Jaheira, and i had to install the official Patch, because the Jaheira romance is very buggy. After I installed the patch, the UB dialogs (Extended illithium quest, Pai'Na etc.) didn't show  up, all I get was a black dialog screen without a single word.
Did I do something wrong? I would like to play BG with UB, but i would like to romance with Jaheira too. I don't know if anybody has a similar problem, but I would be so happy, If I could find some kind of solution.
Thanks: L.

If you're saying that you installed the official patch *after* UB, then yes, you're going to have many problems, and not just with UB-added material.  Your best bet would be to reinstall UB, though you might have to start a new game.  (It might be best to see if someone else posts a less harsh solution, but I'm very certain about the cause.  :))

Regarding Suna Seni, I added Valygar before going to the Underdark, and he had his conversation with Suna as expected.  However, when the group returned from the Underdark, Suna was again at the Copper Coronet.  The conversation there and later in the Docks were repeats of what took place before we had left for Brynnlaw.

Hi
Just done the circus tent "Kalah" quest. Killed him, left the tent and nothings happened  ??? I have a few mods installed like Divine Remix, Quest Pack, DbeGone, DQuest, Xan and Keto. Could one of these be stopping it working. Rest of the stuff seems fine so far just this first bit.

The Suna Seni component will "No Valid Replies Or Links" in Spellhold if you have both Aerie and Cernd:
If you kick Aerie out of your party right before speaking to Suna, this bug won't happen. Shame my last save game was before i even completed the first dungeon level (i ruined the autosave by trying to go and free the prisoners). :/

Another problem with Suna Seni.

If you decide _not_ to install the mod, Suna Seni attacks you with some Slavers.  It's the first ambush of the game, and you get Arbane from it.  Suna Seni is wielding it.  All well and good, except that when somebody changed things so that Suna Seni has a more interesting life, they gave Arbane  to another named person in the first ambush by slavers.  He still has his sword, so you get 2 of them.

restored crooked crane -- minor nit

After you have the conversation -- 'did you know that there was a lich in the basement'? that conversation option should no longer show up..
Title: Bohdi, Valygar & Suna

I've encountered two bugs..............

1.  UB seems to install Cat & Mouse whether I tell it to or not.  I've played through SoA twice with this option not turned on, yet I keep running into Bohdi in the Asylum dungon anyways.

2.  UB displaces/kills a number of original dialog options with Valygar's whether you intall the Suna subplot or not.  First of all, the friend ship track the happens with Valygar never gets underway (I know it exists because it happened the first time I played without UB).  Also, the PC doesn't ask Valygar if he'll join him against Irenicus in the Elven Palace (like he/lshe does all other NPCs).  In point of fact, I've played with UB twice now, the first time with the Suna Subplot, the second time without.  Even with this component not installed, Valygar went on a tirade (with Cernd) about wanting revenge on Irenicus for killing Suna.

I've encountered two bugs...
Could it be that you have some old files laying around your override folder? As in, if the game is not totally clean of them, you will encounter old mods if they were not uninstalled or removed when uninstalling the game.
Building and Maintaining a Clean Install (http://forums.pocketplane.net/index.php/topic,17555.0.html).

Actually the Valygar-Cernd dialogue is in the vanilla game - it's obviously something that wasn't cleaned up when Bioware removed the Suna subplot. It makes no sense at all with the Suna subplot missing, but there you go.

As for the rest, Jarno's comments are probably correct. I do the quick reinstall method in between playthroughs to keep my install clean (ie, backup dialog.tlk, chitin.jey, baldur.ini and the override folder then copy the clean versions back before you start a new game with new mods). One time I forgot to delete the old override folder and just copied the backed up one - of course if you do that, it doesn't delete the files in the existing override folder so it leaves weird garbage around even if the relevant mod is not installed. In that instance, I'd had Suna installed on a previous game, so she was still in the Copper Coronet, but as UB wasn't installed her dialogue was nonsense (same with the butler in Valygar's house). Is it possible you've done something like this?

From what I understand, it is impossible to ever meet Valygar - with the Suna Seni subplot installed - unless you agree to Tolgerias' secret quest.   If so, even if this is intentional, it works like a bug in a role-playing game because it forces the player to agree to Tolgerias' quest even if his/her PC would never do so, or they have to forego the whole Planar Sphere part of the game - especially not nice if the PC is a mage.

Is there something I am missing (I hope) that allows Valygar to show up without having the PC either be so stupid as to genuinely agree to what Tolgerias asks sight unseen, or lie to him?  Keep in mind that sacking houses for no apparent reason (if you can go directly to Valygar's home to get his location without Tolgerias' quest) is not an option for everyone either.  As a player, I might think to do that, but my character would certainly not.

I think I'll unpin this thread since we're now on v18.
