@16802- [SOUND IRENIC08] Child, you escape? I did not forsee this! I am not done with you! You.. you have angered me! Do you know what that takes!?
This one confused me. I don't remember him -ever- saying anything like this -anywhere-.
-
Hmmm... that is interesting. It appears to be related to string @16805, both of which have a voice clip and both of which are contained in csiren.dlg. Even more files can be referenced, namely csgayl.dlg and cut01b.bcs.
It seems that there was an alternate, longer cutscene that was supposed to take place on the Promenade. This is something we'll definitely look into.
-
@16805- [SOUND IRENIC09]Rage! Hate! This is your death! I will end your petty little lives!
Sounds like Irenicus has finally lost it.
-
That should definitely be an optionnal component...
-
All the existing UB components are entirely optional, so obviously this one would be as well (regardless of the repetition factor).
-
I thought the black rogue was the guy who went to tell Aran linvail what had happened with the attacking of Irenicus and how it went *SPLAT*
-
To me, I thought it was obvious that the guy in black leaving the gaping hole in the Promenade was Yoshimo (a male thief dressed in black) escaping CI the same time as you.
Actually, though, is he there leaving when Yoshimo is actually IN your party? I normally escape CI solo.
-
He's there even if you have Yoshimo.
And besides, Yoshi dresses in brown, whereas this thief is all in black.
-
Besides, that thief's creature name is something like "gaelan", so the confusion isn't really possible.
-
I always thought that guy was gaelan bayle, would make sense anyway, how else could he learn so fast from imoens capture? ( he could have hidden behind some tent/building, watched the whole scene play out and talk to you later in the slums).
Its hard for me to explain otherwise how he could know of everything that fast if you walk right from CI into the slums. (especially when using haste )
-
Hm... Maybe Gaelan was supposed to talk to you right after the Promenade scene, and tell you to meet him in the slums district (hence the "yes, show me to your home" line that we never see). Would give the player a reason to visit the slums first, other than them being the only accessible area at that time.
-
During some browsing I noticed a dialogue file called CSIMOEN, which presumably is for the Imoen you see in the 'So you have escaped, you are more resourceful than I had thought' cutscene. It plays a voiced Imoen line that reads 'That's... that's him! That's the guy that hurt me! Hurt us! I won't let him do it again!' (CSIMO65 is the wav) and then runs the standard sequence for after you've left CI.
I don't think I've ever seen this line in game...
-
I've also seen a dialogue file CSIREN which appears to be Irenicus cutscene dialogue. One of which is basically the aforementioned cutscene but as a dialogue. The others are... interesting.
1st dialogue:
[SOUND IRENIC02] You dare attack me here?! Do you even know whom you face?!
[SOUND GAELEN36] We know of your treachery, Irenicus! Where have you taken our brethren?!
[SOUND IRENIC07] You know nothing of me! You know nothing of what I must do! You will suffer! You will all suffer!
[SOUND GAELEN37] Men! Kill him!
2nd dialogue:
[SOUND IRENIC08] Child, you escape? I did not forsee this! I am not done with you! You.. you have angered me! Do you know what that takes!?
3rd dialogue (its just the cutscene as a dialogue):
[SOUND DPJON129] Enough! I haven't the time for this!
[SOUND CSCO701A] You will cease your spellcasting and come with us!
...
[SOUND CSCO704A] You have been involved in illegal use of magic. You will come with us!
[SOUND CSIMO67] I'm not going with him! I'm not! Help me! Please!
-
Maybe part of the original Promenade cutscene? (The one with Gaelan Bayle and all)

At a guess, yes.

What original Promenade cutscene?

ummm.... that board is either missing or off limits to me. that's what it says when i click on the link. is gaelan the one running away?
-
That's basically what the thread concluded. There was also discussion that Gaelan might have been meant to stick around and direct the PC to the slums from there, which would explain why you *have* to visit the slums first..
-
ummm.... that board is either missing or off limits to me.
Hm... That's right, it's in the workroom....
-
Sorry, would anybody miss that line?

[SOUND GAELEN37] Men! Kill him!
Almost makes it sound like Irenicus was a former Cowlie, doesn't it? Makes sense, since there wasn't a point to this cutscene before Bioware came up with the Spellhold idea...
-
Actually, with Gaelen saying those lines to him, it makes it sound more like he was working with the Shadow Thieves at some point.
-
Ah, I thought it was a Cowled Wizard saying that. Thanks, Kish.
-
Sorry, would anybody miss that line?
my thought exactly...?
-
IIRC Aran tells you about the Shadow Thieves' and Irenicus' ties during your encounters with him. No need for him to be anything beyond that. The ST set him up with CI and basic paperwork in Athkatla. I just meant it doesn't add anything we did not already know or anything that changes gameplay.

Wasn't it supposed to be the Shadow Thieves who captured the PC and co. between BG1 and 2?
-
I've seen much debate as to whether it was the Shadow Thieves, vampires, dopplegangers, rakshasas, or the Umar Hills Chickens. I think the conclusion is that nobody really seems to know.
-
what bona fide sources could there possibly be other than explicit content found buried in the game {which could obviously be directly referenced} or interviews/pipeline with gaider (any other 'original crew' get their brain picked for public consumption?)
-
Erm, I believe that it's a general consensus that it's Shadow Thieves, that the Gaelen talking to Irenicus is the same you meet in the Slums. Also, I heard that the .wav files that were supposed to be played with this cutscene don't exist; please correct me if I'm wrong about that. If it IS true, than it could be annoying, because obviously there are three choices: re-insert the dialogue, leave out ALL sound (boring), redo ALL the voices from scratch (time-consuming and you'd have to find new voices for Imoen, Irenicus, Shadow Thieves, Gaelen, and Cowlies), just put in all the files you can find and let the rest be silent (choppy). As you can see none of the options are really that wonderful. Oh, and, all this trouble for a few extra lines that really don't do TOO much to improve your gaming experience? Not really worth it if you ask me. Although, I do find it illuminating to see that this is the reason Gaelen finds out about my predicament so soon; still it's not techically neccessary, as evidenced by the fact that they DID cut out this bit.
-
I think all the clips are there. I could be wrong.
-
Merged a couple of threads.

He was. The head SThief guarding the exit from Jon's dungeon says "Irenicus shall learn what it is to betray the Shadow Thieves!"
