Title: Keto required in some quests?
Post by: Imrahil on December 29, 2004, 09:12:07 AM
I'm currently running 2 games, one party with Keto & one without, & ran into a couple of bugs in the "Keto-less" party that correspond to where her interjections happen in the "Keto-ful" party.

The first one was with Edwin's tasks for Mae'Var - when he sends you after Reyic, Keto makes an interjection, but since she wasn't in my Keto-less party, the quest broke & stopped there (I had to use SK to advance the variables to move on).

The second time was during the first meeting with the Avatar of Amaunator in the temple under the sewers.  Keto has an interjection while you're discussing Amaunator's followers & the rod, but in my Keto-less party, the dialogue just stopped & the Avatar had nothing to say to me (I SK'd in the 1st half of the rod & proceeded from there).

I doubt I'd have guessed that Keto was the cause if I hadn't been running 2 parties, & it may just be my configuration (I have a ton of MOD's installed, so if I'm the only one this happens to then it's obviously something I did), but I figured I'd point it out in case anyone else can confirm that having Keto installed but not in the party can break certain quests.

Incidently - shouldn't she get drunk if you use her Bottle of Wine over & over?

So when Edwin says
"Rayic Gethras is his name.  His house is a gray three-story behind a fence along the westward wall of the Docks District. If he is home, his door will be open."

the dialogue simply ends?

Over here, that looks and works fine (although I will admit that there's a _different_ Edwin-related interjection bug which I located and fixed while looking for this situation, so thanks for that).

Send me your EDWIN.DLG file from your override directory, to jcompton@pocketplane.net .

I'm guessing you have some sort of weird double-install bug, but I can't offhand guess at why.

Okay, there are four different NPCs with interject lines there in your installation:

Keto, and we're reasonably sure it's not her.
Ghareth, and I'm fairly sure it's not him.
BonsBruce
And, I'm guessing from the variable name, Ninafer. (death variable is "cmninaf", variable is NinaEdwin)

Do you have any of the other three in your party? If so, boot them and try it again. If that solves the problem, report the bug to the respective author. :)

Gee, I hope it's not BonsBruce!  :D

Actually, I think it must be BonsBruce - he's in that party as well (as are Kitanya & Neh'taniel - the other 2 members are rotating Bioware NPC's), but not in the party that has Keto.  He didn't speak up in either instance, while Keto did in both encounters, so I didn't consider that it might be him.  :)

Thanks for looking into it, JC.

I did a check of the avatar of Amaunator meeting with all combinations of BonsBruce and Keto in and out of the party. It's playing through properly in each instance, so I think there must be some additional weirdness going on. Send me your RIFTG03.DLG and SUBRUJ.DLG from your override, and I'll compare and contrast.   :)

The cause turned out to be a bug in BonsBruce v1. Bons has smacked her own wrist and uploaded V2.
