The best thing about FotD is that it (almost) fixes the Wizard Opposition Schools for Specialists and the Priest Spheres for Druids and Clerics. It also makes the monsters have the stats and powers they should have and changes where some monsters are encountered. But it also drastically reduces the amount of magick items and weapons available, which might be going a bit too far. There are enough Magick Resistant monsters and monsters that require +1 or +2 weapons to hit to make it dangerous to wander around. I dread meeting something resistant to both.
Personally, I'd prefer a 2nd Edition Rules Fix mod and a separate FotD Adventure mod.
And, as always, I'd thoroughly recommend playing any game with NO mods at all a few times before tinkering with it. Except BG1. I'd recommend a rules fix patch that just makes the game proper 2E mfrom the start. If you can find one.
