i've got a feeling that all those assertion erors windows are for devs and testers and thats an engine bug. rarely happens in unmodded bg but you get them along with complex mods like fotd

Everything I said above might be complete rubbish as I have now reached the entrance to the second level of the cloakwood mines and I get the same error:

An Assertion failed in

D:\Dev\Baldur\ObjCreature.cpp at line number 8786

It's always line 8786 and this time removeing the CD doesn't help. I think the entire level 2 of the ine is missing.

In addition, an assertion error pointing to a file on the D:\ drive suggests there's something wrong with the CD, or that the CD-ROM drive can't read the file from the disk properly. If so, it's not the mod as the mod files will be on C:\.

Copying everything to the hard drive, a full install and playing with no CD in the drive should fix it.

I got  a similar CTD assertion error in a creature.cpp on the bottom right-hand map (Samuel and gibberlings) right down in the bottom right corner.

As it referenced a file on the D:\ drive, I restarted the game, removed the CD and it was fine. But then, as my original CDs are slightly scratched, I copied everything to C:\ and did a full install from there (original 5 CD + TSC), so I don't actually need a CD to play (unless the start-up splash screen asks for one).

But try it, it might work.

Yes, i've got my share of assertion errors, mainly on entering AR1084, and one of them happened when fighting an ankheg in lower-right map location. So concerning AR1804 errors, i had a party of 6 ang got the error, no matter entering as ordinary people do or CLUAing. when removed all companions from the party, CLUAing and walking into the area worked fine.

http://forums.pocketplane.net/index.php?topic=305.0 This thread might be of help.  En error message like that usually means there's something wrong with a creature's animation.  I think.  How have the creatures in the Cloakwood been tinkered with?  Kind of a vague place to start troubleshooting, but hey.

Yeah, I know what that assertion error means but it is a bit difficult to search for the error when it does not occur here. I will look over the creatures in the area but I do not think they have been changed much besides basic stats.

Yikes!! AR1803 takes me to Daveorn's lair,, and an immediate butt kicking from a SKELETON that has one mean ass breath weapon!! AR1802 takes me to where I want to go. UPDATE: There is nothing in that room but 4 ordinary guards. Also, the Assertion error occurs when going thru that door in either direction. So maybe there is something wrong with the door?

That skeleton is skulltrapped. It will detonate when you damage it, but it can be dispelled.

Given the assertion error, I doubt the door is the problem here.

Not really as it does not happen on any of my installs. Try CLUAing to AR1803 and see it that one works.

 :'( I can go no further. I get this assertion error when trying to go from Cloakwood Mine Level 1 to Cloakwood Mine Level 2... as follows;

D:\BGSourceUpdate_TOTSC\dev\Baldur\ObjCreature.cpp
at line number 8786

I have gotten this error 6 times. I tried 2 different saves. I turned off the AV. Re-booted the CP. No joy. Any ideas? ???
