Actually, it did work since global values are recorded in the save file. If anyone else encounters the same problem (since Steam does that from time to time), install your mods again and press K as stated in the ReadMe, and it brought back the voicing for me.

... and tried to continue from my save; but even installing the mod on a fresh version without other mods doesn't work.
This is entirely your fault. See, the mod components are installed in a particular order, and if you go and mess with it in the middle, you need to start a New Game... as loading the old saves will not make them magically work correctly. Also updating a mod version can mess with the save game.
Steam will ruin your modified game, if you try to restore the factory settings(revalidate file content). As that's it's job.

By the way, it is the only mod I have installed in this clean installation, with this Weidu log:

// Log of Currently Installed WeiDU Mods
// The top of the file is the 'oldest' mod
// ~TP2_File~ #language_number #component_number // [Subcomponent Name -> ] Component Name [ : Version]
~XAN/XAN.TP2~ #0 #0 // Xan NPC MOD for Baldur's Gate II: v17
~XAN/XAN.TP2~ #0 #1 // Install alternate class for Xan? -> Change Xan's class to Fighter/Mage: v17
~XAN/XAN.TP2~ #0 #6 // Xan's Alternate Voice by Joey Bracken: v17

Hi,

I was very much enjoying Chapter.6 in the non-bonded path of the mod when Steam had a problem with detecting the game file - and after it located the game file, everything went downhill. Since nothing helped, I had to re-install the game, and tried to continue from my save; but even installing the mod on a fresh version without other mods doesn't work. It doesn't recognize the sound files, and dialogue box shows script from love-talks and/or party banter instead. Any help on how to fix this would be MUCH appreciated, since I am way too far in to restart my game (and have very little free time as it is), and mod is just too good to give up on.

Hope the situation is salvageable, eagerly waiting replies :(
