I re-extracted the files into the correct file and it worked perfectly! Thanks a lot. Now to rescue Boo...

A .zip or .rar file. UB is packed differently than Banter Pack or NPCFlirt(you should have mentioned earlier that you installed then). Okay, here's what you gotta do: go to the folder where your game is. The folder with Baldur.exe, /save folder, etc. Then unpack the contents of UnfinishedBusiness-v18.rar file there. You should have /ub folder, Setup-UB.exe file and setup-ub.tp2 file - all in your BG2 directory. Then run Setup-UB.exe.

UAC is already off, and I have already installed and run the NPC Banter and Flirt mods, so I think it must be something with how this specific mod is programmed. Any ideas on what it means by "archive'?

Mmm, I don't think so: it doesn't sound reasonable, anyway. I'd either wait for a Vista expert(which isn't me), or try turning UAC control off, the way that user suggested: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/disable-user-account-control-uac-the-easy-way-on-windows-vista/

So if I am reading that correctly, I should uninstall BGII and its mods and reinstall them all in a different directory, like c->games->black isle-> BGII-SOA?

Welcome to PPG,

There were a couple of people with problem like yours - I think it's Vista-related. Try searching for "vista", "installation" and "trouble" - should help.
Here's one of such topics: http://forums.pocketplane.net/index.php/topic,26638.msg320882.html#msg320882

And, yep, making sure you're installing it in your BG2 folder is the way to go.

For my third playthrough, I decided to get this mod, which I had heard much praise for. Unfortunately, I have had some trouble installing it. I have successfully installed a couple of other mods (npc banter & flirtpacks) and they run fine, so I don't think it's general to mods. I am using Vista.

I was able to extract the files into my BG II SOA file, but when I try to run SETUP - UB I get this error message inside the black box thingy (DOS?):
ERROR: [SETUP-UB.TP2] not found. Make sure you have unpacked the archive correctly and are not trying to run this file from inside an archive. [file location] using scripting style Baldur's Gate 2.

So, what is an archive in computing language, and how do I know if I have unpacked it correctly?

Thanks in advance.
