True, Virtue affects only the Good/Evil axis. An additional feature that would govern the Lax/Chaos axis was suggested in the past, but it was decided that this would not be feasible.

Hi, just a short question:

What defines what kind of good/neutral/evil you become? I tried killing the shnerv... snerf... whatever they're called, the black gnomes in the Underdark. To see how my virtue would be affected. I was chaotic neutral and changed to chaotic evil :) Fair enough, because it was random killing of innocents for no good reason. However I'm wondering if there's also a chance to become lawful or neutral evil? Or, if I might somehow raise my virtue again, would I become chaotic neutral/good or can it also change to neutral or lawful.

My current impressions are that I can choose between lawful/neutral/chaotic at character creation, and the Virtue mod only changes the good/neutral/evil part of it, is that correct?

And other than that, my congratualations and thanks for making this mod. I only just installed it but I really love the idea of it and that you got it to work! I hope it will not dissapoint me by making the game crash (like some other mods) or working in a way which it isn't meant to be. (for example I've heard complaints that there can be bugs in the mod, causing you to lose virtue for no reason. but I read in the readme that it's easy to manually change it back, which is really good!)

So all in all, many thanks for making this mod and hopefully you can answer my question about the alignment!

Delightfully yours,
-MisterDutch

Or perhaps it's because

(1+20)/2 = 10.5, not 10.

(There's no zero virtue, and there is a 20 virtue, so 10 isn't the average.)

Maybe it's got to do with the fact that for the most part the game has good and evil paths, and neutral characters are forced to do the good thing.

It's harder to become good than it is to be evil?  Dunno. :)

Purely out of curiosity, why is the upper Virtue limit for remaining neutral farther away from 10 than the lower limit?

So if you're good, and drop down to 13, you remain good, but if you're neutral, and rise up to 14, you'll still stay neutral?

If that's how it works, that sounds quite decent.  I might go so far as to lower the evil top number to 6, but I have notoriously feeble morals.  Or at least, that's what I hear.

Virtue fluctuates between 1 and 20 in the same way as reputation.

The starting Virtue values are:
Evil: 7
Neutral: 11
Good: 14

The textual descriptions on the record screen are:
1-4: Villainous
5-7: Iniquitous
8-12: Equable
13-16: Righteous
17-20: Heroic

The change points are:
Become evil: 1-7
Become neutral: 9-12
Become good: 15-20
