You can't continue a BG1 game in Tutu, if that's what you're asking.  You can import a BG1 character though.  If somehow you already had a Tutu game before (re-)installing Tutu, it depends on the mod.  Check this thread for recommendations.

It worked! Now playing very happily. Thanks for all your advice everyone.

Before I get too far in the game, though, will most of the available mods require me to start a new character to use them?

Hello -

Argh! Argh!

I was able to get the NPC sounds file manually copied, and you were right, after that the setup program prompted me for a no-TotSC install. Everything seemed to be going fine until...

"BG1 resource mismatch. Cannot continue."

And the installation canceled out. What does this mean?

Are we talking about an English language distribution of BG?  If not, the no-TotSC option will not work for you.

If you do in fact have an English language distribution, others who have reported the same error have had success with rebooting and performing the installation prior to opening any other programs.  The no-TotSC patching has shown itself to be decidedly flakey in this regard (at least for some users).

Hello -

NPCSound.bif

I'm pretty sure everything but this one are TotSC-specific.  The installer will allow you to do a no-TotSC installation if you meet the minimum requirements (which you currently do not, since you are missing a mandatory file).  So, focus your attention on getting NPCSound.bif off the game media and onto your hard drive.

Thank you! That's a huge help!

What's the best thing other than a chamois?

Well, I've wiped them pretty thoroughly with a chamois cloth. When I first tried to reinstall I thought they were broken, but then I noticed they were filthy. I wiped them off, and now the game plays fine. I thought all was well until I tried to install Tutu. Now I'm worried that whether or not I install Tutu, I'll run into gamebreaking glitches later in the game (I'm still in Cloakwood).

Have your "dirty old [bastard]s" been cleaned? Thoroughly?

I'm trying to install BG1Tutu.

Sadly, although my full installation of BG1 appears to be working correctly, BG1Tutu won't install, as it can't find all the files it needs. Specifically, it can't find these files--

In the /Data/ folder:

NPCSound.bif
AREA0500.bif
AREA050A.bif
AREA050B.bif
AREA050C.bif
AREA050D.bif
AREA1000.bif
AREA100A.bif
AREA1500.bif
AREA150A.bif
AREA2000.bif
AREA200A.bif
AREA200B.bif
ExArMaps.bif
MPGUI.bif
MPSounds.bif

And in the /Movies/ folder:

MovieCD6.bif

I tried manually copying the files from the cds, but that doesn't work either. I am wondering whether anyone would be willing to copy and email me these files, or suggest another way to get around the problem. I was so eager to play Tutu, and now it seems like I won't be able to!
