I've no idea what's causing problem 1, but no. 2 is a known issue with the Mac version of ToB (and perhaps SoA as well) and 10.4.x. The only "fix" that I know of is to save, quit, restart and reload the game whenever your party gets lethargic.

I'm trying to troubleshoot two consistent problems I have with my BGII installs. It seems to happen under both major installs, so I'm thinking it might be something within either the engine itself or within the resource files. It doesn't seem to be in the hacks.

The two problems don't seem to be related.

Problem 1) Marriq, the Genie from the pocket Plane of Air in Irenicus' dungeon, likes to come play in inappropriate locations. He shows up EVERYWHERE (I swear, the guy would go to the opening of an envelope....), sometimes in multiples of himself. He has to be attended to, or frequently, I can't go any further, get past him or save. Currently, the fix is to create his flask (misc4d), give it to him, and get an Nth copy of the Sword of Chaos and the experience. (In a couple of games, I've had Marriq appear so many times that the SoC+2 is only worth 150GP.... In those games, I just drop the stupid thing.) I guess I shouldn't complain, after all, free experience, right? - but I try to keep my cheating to an absolute minimum, using only the parts of hacks that improve gameplay and only those NPCS that bring something to the game that the original NPCS were lacking (like... clerical and thieving skills....)

Problem 2) The party gets stuck and cannot walk anywhere. I can sometimes get a single character to follow a very detailed route, but the entire group will not move as a group. Unlike the Marriq problem, this one causes real issues since when it happens, I have to save, exit entirely from the game, and restart. The problem will happen about once a half hour initially, but will improve somewhat over time. So, when I have the leisure to have a long session (several hours) the first couple of hours are all about the restarting, but by hour 3 or 4, I can usually go an hour or so without a stall and so on.

I'm running the game on a MacBook 2 GHz Intel Core duo with 2 GB memory so I can pretty much guarantee that this is not a running out of memory issue. Running on 10.4 (Tiger) (which might be the problem since Tiger doesn't seem to play well with others on a lot of issues.) Oh, and the game does not install under bootcamp with the Win disks.

I have 2 parallel (i.e. complete, not using the Multi-Install Tool) installations on the main hard drive (and a few dozen on a firewire drive). The problems happen under both installations, one of which is perfectly clean -- SOA, TOB and official TOB patch. It also happens under the hacked to within an inch of its life installation (Amber, Ascension, AoE, BG2Tweaks, bg2Fixpack, Kelsey, Kivan, Xan and Ding0Tweak).

Any clues where I should be looking for logs, or any direction would be much appreciated.

And since I haven't said it often enough where the developers can hear.... Thanks so very much for all the work you modders do.
