Since (as far as I know) there has been no words about BOB's (Blades of Brynnlaw) development, what is the status on the "rights" on Lens of Rhynn Lanthorn?

In other words, will UB be implementing the Lens or do we have to wait for a revival of BOB?

I actually think the point behind the lens was to give the party an excuse to finish all the side quests. Even if you had finished the quests already they'd atleast be siting in empty dungeons. Bioware most likly abandoned it because they figured most people would do nearly all the quests before reaching the underdark and afterwards would want to go toward the end.

LIke all components it would be optional.

The current leftover coding seems to suggest that if there aren't enough unfinished quests to scatter the lenses around, then the number of lenses you have to collect diminishes, so you might only have to find two, one, or even none at all.

I, for the most part, am NOT in favor of restoring this. It's obvious that BioWare abandoned the idea pretty quickly--the Lenses cover pretty much every single major quest available in Chapters 2 & 3, and incorporating the Lenses into them would force postponing them until Chapter 6. Needless to say, this design is....extremely limiting, especially if you'd like to recruit Valygar or Mazzy. I'm glad BioWare turned from this path (although they seem to have given the designer(s) of that idea a token nod with the way that the Small Teeth Pass, etc., are inaccessible until Chapter 6).

On a more constructive note: I would favor restoring the Lenses IF they were all made to appear in located within Athkatla*, and also in quests that the party has not already done--if not enough locations remain open, the excess Lenses could be held by Bodhi's lieutenants, the 3 you have to stake before you can do down to her lair proper.

* Since Bodhi was the one who stole the Lanthorn, she would naturally hide the Lenses in places that would be accessible to her. This means ixnay on the Druid Grove, ixnay on the Unseeing Eye's hive, ixnay on the Radiant Heart, etc.

You only need three of the seven lenses, so it shouldn't be a problem :).

BTW forcing the player to get certain lenses would also interfere with several other mods, including the Quest Pack, Lands of Intrigue and the Mod for the Wicked.

I have heard that one of the missing lenses was supposed to be found on Mae'Var.  As I have an NPC which makes completion of the Mae'Var quests (at least with her in the party) extremely difficult, I was wondering if this was going to be implemented.  (Compatibility with UB is always a Good Thing.)

I'm also very much in favour of restoring this, for reasons mentioned above. Basically every bit of the game has a "rushed" quality to it, that is: the PC has reason to hurry, either to save Imoen or to get to Suldanessellar. The Missing Lenses would give him/her a good (story-internal) reason to spend time doing sidequests.

is this one still up for grabs?

It would definitely add something to chapter 6 besides breakinto Bodhi's lair/ kill Bodhi / go to Elhan.

Well, I know I would like to see this component restored. I ususally head for Spallhols as soon as possible and leave most of the quests for chapter 6, and this would give me a better reason to do them than "need more experience before fighting Irenicus" or "need to waste some time until the next lovetalk/stronghold quest triggers".

I will of course do the quests no matter what, but this would add a reason that my character would be aware of, which I think is a good thing, and definitely worth the time to restore.

Are the missing lenses gonna be added, because i'm not sure what requiring the pc to do more quests will add to gameplay.  I know i can just not install them but i'm saying if it would require effort for people to program it may not be worth their time.

THE MISSING LENSES OF THE RHYNN LANTHORN - DIALOG.TLK ENTRIES

@1120 = ~This is one of the missing lenses of the Rhynn Lanthorn. It must be taken back to Elhan.~ (Part of the removed Lanthorn quest)
@57940 = ~The Elven city requires my aid.
I must also find 3 pieces of the Lanthorn, individual panes of glass that focus its energy. Elhan says that his sages have divined clues as to where they are. I will detail them individually.~

@57946 = ~The Elven city requires my aid.
'A pane of elven origin is held amidst the servants of nature, in the grasp of the beasts that die to the fire.'~

@57948 = ~The Elven city requires my aid.
'Beneath the streets in human city, within the kingdom of the blind, the beast does not see what it has even now.'~

@57949 = ~The Elven city requires my aid.
'Long hidden with a family's past, abandoned unintentionally with the sealing of the horrors below. Unearthed by invaders of troll and digger, they know not what they have.'~

@57950 = ~The Elven city requires my aid.
'In the lair of a crimson wyrm, but not a trinket in the hoard, a liar points the way to treasure, though she knows not the one she holds.'~

@57951 = ~The Elven city requires my aid.
'A traitor among the thieves, he seeks the height of leadership within a guild anew, not knowing the prize he holds.'~

@57952 = ~The Elven city requires my aid.
'Jailor of the Tiefling, he knows not what he has. On the path of minstrels and troubadours lies a prize within the altar.'~

@57954 = ~The Elven city requires my aid.
'In the talons of a beast of shadow, amidst the ruins of light near witches and hills. The pane is a curiosity, but he knows its power not.'~

@57958 = ~The Elven city requires my aid.
The Rhynn Lanthorn will now guide us into Suldanessellar. The majority of Elhan's elves will have to remain here to rout the Drow, meaning I will be left to deal with Irenicus and whatever he has unleashed upon the city. Elhan has still not revealed the origins of Irenicus' hatred towards the elves, and has shed little light on why he refers to the mage as 'the Exile', saying only that the crime was great, the punishment greater. Irenicus must have done something especially abhorrent to the elves. Once in the city I will see if the high priestess Demin has any more information, if the city is intact at all.~

Looking at Elhan's old files, there seems to be a "priority" list. The lenses appear in the 3 highest spots on that list that you haven't visited yet. The first one is the Troll Mound, since most people don't ever visit it: it would then become important to do so, since you couldn't complete the game otherwise.

Acutally, only three lenses are needed to complete the lanthorn. I think they'll be placed in quests the PC hasn't completed yet in Chapter 2/3, and the Elves will name those quests as possible locations. If the PC has already completed all/nearly all of the quests, I think the sage would name a few "used" places.

not to beat a dead horse, but looking at some of the files posted on the board, I got to thinking about the lenses again. granted, I'm not sure whether UB is planning on using it or not, but I thought I might as well ask...

the cut dialogues posted for the lenses only indicate seven parts, yet they're all connected to the various PC stronghold quests. wouldn't it make sense if the lenses were part of every single stronghold to cover all choices for the PC? the one missing was the planar sphere; I don't know if that was mistakenly left off or simply not included in the game, but it seems to me that the lenses were all designed to make the party complete as many "major" quests as possible in the game, ie not just make enough money to reach spellhold then do the essential quests only to win the game. so just curious if the lanthorn quest is returned, whether the lenses will be in all eight strongholds...
