Is there any mention of fairy dust in PNP dungeons and dragons? What does it do?

i know this is awfully tardy, but so surprised there was so little response...  there's never been an extensive game mechanics study of fairy dust in PNP, afaik (tho i haven't memorized the entire 3[.5]E library yet), but as far as general fairy shenanigans both in various AD&D modules and in peripheral folklore (shakespeare notwithstanding), it could be...

[*DISCLAIMER* i recognize that this might only be a thread to figure out what some items were intended for before they fell by the proverbial wayside.  but i'll babble out my braintap any time (not *everyone* has noticed yet), and if this is of no use, either someone will be polite/patronizing enough to tell me so, or i'll have the catharsis anyway.]

...derived from ground pixie wings or leprechaun whiskers or dryad hair or some such.  (i mean, a notable quantity stored in a bottle - that doesn't sound like it was a fairy's idea.  the most benign explanation would probably be a 'friend' or 'student' of the wee folk building up a collection over time..  but i'd guess more sinister.  perhaps an ambitious mage who captures fairies and demands dust as ransom.  but unless the mage is a peerless diviner or something, such bargains are easily tricked-out, since:
...capable of producing powerful psychedelic and/or soporific effects
...useful in major/bizarre/experimental enchantments (another possibility for planar-sphere-stronghold apprentices?)
...a tracking device, so the party can be scried by
     - one of the captive dryads who has a crush on [or grudge against] somebody in the party
     - somebody/anybody who hung out on the periphery of (or escaped during an encounter resulting from) any extraplanar quest, through the sphere, or the raelis shai & co. rescue, or the Deck-slinging cambion & his crew...

*now* somebody can tell me "oh yeah, X incorporated that stuff into Xmod last month.  don't worry about it."  k thx byee.
but if nothing else, i'll damn sure use it in my first mod.

Magnet.bcs is assigned to ppinvi01.cre , an invisible and unkillable creature that isn't refered to in the game. Note that the prefix pp usually indicates a file for Brynnlaw or Spellhold.

There are a couple points in the cleric stronghold quests where you get offered a choice between those three items.  Alphonse is the servant who brings you your choice, though he doesn't speak, just walks up to you and you get the item.

That's weird, wild and wacky stuff.  :o

This item came up in a discussion, and since no one could remember where it was found, I looked it up in NI and realized that it was nowhere in the game. Yet another Weird Item, it would seem!

But there's more. The item is referrenced in ALPHONSE.BCS (and no, that's not about Alfons the Tax Collector). Apparently, this guy could give you the Ring of Holiness, Armor of Faith, or Staff Spear +2, depending on the value of the Alphonse global variable. The thing is, they finally put him in the Five Flagon's basement and gave him a crappy dialog file, so all he does in the released game is make fun of Biff the Understudy. Smells like a cut quest, doesn't it?

Finally, the file is referrenced in MAGNET.BCS, which is apparently supposed to magnetize any character wearing metallic armor. This was probably dropped because of engine limitations, but the spell file (SPIN854.SPL) is still present. There was even supposed to be a portrait icon for the Magnetized effect.

If the Cloak of the Wolf gives free passage, then a polymorphed druid should gain the same advantage.

I don't see why, though. These are shade wolves, the very enemies of the native wolf pack.

What about a script?   Like something connecting a "no-attack" scipt with the Shadow wolves or something...<looks unsure>

It could just be an excuse to reimplement an item from BG1?

No, these were the only instances the word Wallag was found in the dialog.tlk.

Maybe he was another member of Mazzy's "Cru"?  Is there a mention in any of the Journal Entries, for like retuning to family or something?

Mazzy's note:

Quote
@17169 = ~Wallag
We travel this day to search out the wolf lair.  My own scouting of the region has confirmed Merella's suspicions that there is a large pack of wolves acting in this area.  On the map included I have indicated where I believe the wolf den to be located.  Follow us if you can, but be cautious. We can ill-afford another mysterious disappearance.  Until we meet again.

Mazzy

(on the same  sheet is drawn a crude but effective map which indicates the path to a forested area several hours north of the Imnesvale region.)~
(Found in Merella's cabin)

Cloak of the Wolf in the Werewolf cave? Makes sense. Maybe he was trying to infiltrate them?  ;D

No idea who Wallag was supposed to be, but his body lies in the werewolf cave in the temple ruins area (AR1403).
