If anyone is still interested, cure disease fixes all.

Took me until half a year ago to figure out  :P

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread but the permanent blindness bug with Valen still exists and its a pain in the butt to solve! Valen was permanently blinded after fighting the Eclipse party, I don't know if it was because they beat her to a pulp with their blinding weapons or the infamous Nature's Beauty spell. I'm not convinced it's a problem with Nature's Beauty that causes the issue and I'll explain why abit later.

I'm using v43 of Valen and the only spells I've found that rid of the blindness are Cure Disease and Neutralize Poison (Malla's Soul Stone is handy for this).

Dispel magic only removes the display icon but not the blindness effect (THAC0 and sight radius).

Heal, Slow Poison, Elixirs of Health, or a Rod of Resurrection don't work, presumably because Valen is 'immune' to healing magic? This includes using Heal at a temple or with items etc.

The reason I think this may be a Valen bug and not just Nature's Beauty misbehaving is that the first way I fixed it before thinking to try Cure Disease was using Shadowkeeper to change Valen's Sun variable back to what it was before the Eclipse fight (By copying, removing and pasting the variable). This seemed to fix it although if the Sun variable keeps on changing naturally perhaps Valen would have become incorrectly blinded again once it got to a certain value?

I'm just looking for clarification really, is this a Valen only bug or is it a known problem with Nature's Beauty that sometimes Dispel Magic doesn't work properly? Regardless maybe a note should be added to the readme since Valen can't be cured by Dispel or Heal etc, someone might not necessarily think to try lower level spells if Heal didn't work!

Sorry if this is all abit presumptious and its just a problem with my much modded install, but I thought I should bring it to your attention! :)

I could certainly see some RP problems with that. If a party member cures her, ok, but a temple is too much. Maybe only evil temples, dunno...

hey guys, shouldn't valen be allergic to temples???  she is a vampire, after all... ;)

You may very well be right, but I'm not sure what you're referring to.  One of the cleric/healer services--a spell?  A spell from a temple?
Yep, that is which I was refering to.  I honestly can't remember it though, I know it was added because the stupid mephits in Chateau Irenicus used to be able to permanently blind you as well.

TG Maestro I think got it with a Heal spell from a Temple, but I think it was in a simplier spell as well.  Although I honestly couldn't say which.

Just as I've said, this ahppened to me as well, the priestess in the Saradush temple caught me with Nature's Beauty, and affected Valen with permanent blindness. The only cure for that was a Heal spell from a party member or a temple. But it did the trick for sure ;) .

Hmm, don't one of the Cleric/Healer services fix the blindness?  As there was a similiar bug in BG2 with blindness in Irenicus's dungeon and that 'rough' fix was pushed in to the Clerics?

If not, ignore me :) I am an idiot:).

I think this is indeed the problem, since I remember Valen fighting the 3 Eclipse casters on her own (and hacking them to pieces :P). But after the battle, nothing can dispel her permanent blindness, not dispel magic, not heal etc.
This is a real pain, because it completely f***s up her script.

...which doesn't seem to work.  Tougher Sendai doesn't use Nature's Beauty, as she did in her initial draft, because testing confirmed that nothing short of hacking (not even Keldorn's Dispel Magic) could get Jan's THAC0 back down out of the mid-20s after he'd been hit by Nature's Beauty.

I'm almost positive that Sola's README covers this.

The Eclipse Druid casts Nature's Beauty. If you've never cast it yourself, look into it -- it's way overpowered.

Anyway, it gives permanent blindness with no save. The trick here is to cast dispel magic.

I had this happen during Eclipse too -- although I've never played Valen.  I might be stating the obvious or the impossible but you might want to try Cure Disease or Heal if you can use these spells on her...  It's cleared up the blindness/no icon problem for me everytime but, as mentioned, I've never played with a vampire NPC and I don't know how healing-type spells work.  ;)

I've had the same trouble with Valen, but it was caused by a Nature's Beauty spell cast by a cleric(?) in Saradush. She autocasts this spell if Valen is in the party. Maybe this is your problem as well.

What a bummer  :(

I think Wes should fix this tbh, it's extremely annoying.

Any thoughts?

Ahh.  It's not a Valen bug, then--it's a Solaufein bug.  This could happen to anybody.  (Indeed, I'd suggest checking to make sure it hasn't happened to each of the other members of your party...)

It can't be fixed, apparently.  Whenever you fight the Eclipse, you risk uncurable blindness.
