So whenever anybody in the party talks to anybody (either in party or out) and vice versa, the party buffers feel the need to run over and stand next to the PC.

I first noticed this when my PC tried to flirt with Kelsey.  Everytime she attempted to snuggle up to her beau, Anomen came over and tried to muscle in on the action.  At first I thought he was jealous   but once I added Jaheira as a party buffer and she came stampeeding over too, I realized that wasn't it.  :D

Mostly it's more amusing than anything, although they have brought some nasties back in an effort to get close to the PC when an NPC popped up and started speaking.
