Death Fog is not useful against your solo character, but it works particularly well against "normal parties". It kills summoned creatures (so if you had been less tactically astute, it would have taken down your gnolls) and disrupts mundane spellcasters. For example, Aerie and Nalia are both seriously annoyed by it. :-)

If you're curious about the buffs, check out 'solak1b.itm'. Unlike the Eclipse guys, who can get away with buffs that last forever, Kuroisan is supposed to be "just like you". However, I don't want to ForceCast everything when he shows up because that brings slow machines to a crawl for a minute. Equipping that item gives you all of his buffs with the appropriate duration. At the beginning of combat he switches to it and then back to Sanchu.

Couple of questions:  What Spell Immunities does he have on?  I know of the Abjuration one, but when I cast True sight, it didn't dispel his Mirror Image (I believe True Sight is supposed to, right?).  Second, exactly which buffs does he have on?  I'd like to have some concrete info...
Probably SI: Divination as well. I believe he has almost every potion granted buff in the game (except maybe the magic blocking potions). The one time I CTRL-Q'ed him he had so many things on his portrait you couln't see his face. And, of course, he has all the stuff from the equipment he wears (Ring of Gaxx, Cloak of Mirroring, Boots of Avoidance, Sanchu etc.)

I would be proud as well.

Depending on how you used the Staff, normal invisibility might not have cut it. Without the staff you can only go invisible every 6 seconds, and you can't have cast a spell or used another item within those six seconds. That's usually plenty of time for him to hit you once or twice. If you sit invisible and wait for his buffs to go away, he will eventually leave and come back later (although perhaps this delay should be shortened).
I used the Staff by equipping it twice; once, to evade the two Death Fogs he had placed around (which, btw, aren't really that useful) and to wait it out.  Since I already had had Kuroishan teleport away, I made sure to go in, and try out a Breah; it didn't work, as he had the Spell Immunity still active.  Then, I went Invisible (via the Staff, of course) and surrounded him with Gnolls.  Since they hit with non-magical weapons, the pro-magic weapons didn't work, and eventually, I beat him.

Oh okay.  I was wondering about that, because the Read-me said something along the lines of 'undroppable equipement', so I thought that, well, they should be undroppable.

I didn't really have to use the Staff of Cheese.  Any Invisibility would have done, I think.  Well, I'm quite proud of beating Kuroishan with a Kensage, level 13/14 :)  I thought I should make the battle fair.

Thank you for your suggestions.

Unfortuantely, I am not interested in making him powerful enough to combat the Staff of Cheese. Try again without that broken item and let us know. :-)

In addition, he is supposed to be "no more powerful than a PC-made F/M", so I'm loathe to give him magic abilities like "invisibility detection by script".

He will use his healing potions, but you can only cast one spell / use one item per round, and he has priorities. Since you killed him before he cast Pro-Magic-Weapons (which he casts from a scroll, so it cannot be interrupted) you killed him *very rapidly*.

Yes, he is supposed to drop that equipment. :-)

Beat it on my first try.  Really, it was quite simple: Staff of the Magi and the Cloak of Non-Detection.  Waited the buffs out, then summoned Ogres.  While he was busy chopping him to bits, I went mano-a-mano with him.  He didn't have time to cast Protection from Magical Weapons.

Three things that I could suggest: First of all, let him see invisible.  I would make the lives fo Mages pretty hard, but... Second, let him use those 5 Potions of Extra Healing.  Never once saw him use it.  Third, I don't know if it is a bug or not, but he dropped the Boots of Avoidance, and a second copy of the Belt of Inertial Barrier.

Right. My "solak1.*" was supposed to cover that. That's a "dos-style" wildcard meaning "all files that have the base name solak1, no matter what their extension". Copy all of those to the safe place.

solak1.itm is Sanchuudoku, but it casts solak1.spl, etc. Really, I recommend against trying to install it "by hand".
I'm not, I'm just asking you which file I should copy to a safe location on my computer after beating him...

So, is the solak1 the .itm file?

I would install the tactical encounters and do
  CLUAConsole:CreateCreature("solak1")
fight him, and then save and quit. Copy solak1.* from override to somewhere safe. Uninstall tactical encounters. Copy solak1.* from safe to override. This will allow you to keep the sword after you win, which tends to be the reason that people fight him.

If you just copy the files to override without installing the mod, all of his strings will be wrong. You could try (solak1.cre, solak1.bcs, solak1.itm, solak1.spl, etc.) but I don't recommend it.

Hrm... well, I'm interested in trying out the Kuroishan battle, but I'm not so sure if I want the whole Tactical Encounters package at once as well.  Anyone know exactly which files I would need for the Kuroishan battle?

Oh yeah, and exactly how much damage does that 'Acidic Backlash' do?
Acidic Backlash does 2D4 damage if I remember correctly, if the Katana hits it lowers acid resistance.

You could install The encounters package, and if you have CF or Malakar currently in your possession, when you reload and move to another area Kuriosan will appear immediately. Defeat Kuriosan and then uninstall. Just a suggestion, Wes may have other advice.

You can also CLUA CONSOLE him in for battle.
