What's with all the scattering?
« on: February 08, 2009, 07:12:20 AM »
I mean, there are practicly tons of IE modding sites out there. SHS, Pocketplane, G3, BWL, CoM, Some individual modders sites (Igi's, for example) and I am sure i unintentionally missed some. Isn't it a bit... ineffecient to have discussions, ideas, and mods scattered over 7 places at once? Or have I majorly missed a few history lessons here?

Search for jcompton's posts; they should give you an idea. Start here:
http://forums.pocketplane.net/index.php/topic,25460.0.html

Basically, yes, when you choose where to host you may not want to choose a certain site because of personal reasons(they suck), or creative reasons(their mods suck). Or, again, they may choose not to accept you because of personal reasons(you suck), or creative reasons(your mod sucks).

I don't think it's just history, though - I came along after the various historical issues were over, and I still think it's better this way. Less potential for tension, more stability against people leaving, a less stressful approach to mod quality control, etc.

As in, when people on <Some Place> flame the crap out of you, you can just easily go to another forum? If that is the case, I understand now :).
* Jarin finds the stuff about Bg2 Modding history very interesting and continuous searching, thanks Kulyok :).

Sure, you're welcome. :) There's a long thread at Studios forum called "The Vision of Studios", here:

The monopoly that was TeamBG died a long time ago. People went out and started their own communities. Now we have many. Some call it a good thing, others call it bad.
