Just a little thing........EasyTutu.
« on: March 02, 2007, 03:35:34 PM »
If you look at GELLANA MIRRORSHADE(_gellan.cre) from the Temple of Wisdom in FAI Area (area FW2304) you will see that she has the 'Animation Id' of 'CLERIC_FEMALE_DWARF-24594' but she is a female gnome and she supposed to have 'CLERIC_FEMALE_GNOME-24596'.

Anyway after changing that she will look different and more female than before.

The reason for that is that all the Gnomes used dwarven avatars in BG1.

I didn't know that.

This would make a good (and fairly easy) Tweak though.  The affected gnome characters would be Gellana, Dushai, Mad Arcand, Quayle, Tiax, Halacan, Landrin, Bentley, Galtok, Hafiz, Delsvirtanyon and Neb.

Heh.  Well I decided to put my money where my mouth is.  Introducing... the soon-to-be internationally-ignored mini-mod you haven't been anxiously awaiting all month...

Gnomes for Tutu/BGT v1

...and there was much rejoicing amongst the short folk.

Gnomes for Tutu/BGT v1
Version 1
-------------------------------
Author: Miloch (aka Tervadh)
http://forums.gibberlings3.net/index.php?showuser=1216
-------------------------------

REQUIREMENTS
Baldur's Gate Trilogy (BGT)-WeiDU, BG1Tutu or EasyTutu (with or without Tales
of the Sword Coast)

COMPATIBILITY
This mod makes no changes to dialog.tlk and should be fully compatible with
other mods.  If you have already met Quayle or Tiax, you may not notice any
changes to them.  It does not change their kits or classes.  Installation
order makes little difference, as the mod patches what it needs to change.

INSTALLATION
1. Extract the GnomesV1.rar file to your BGT-WeiDU, BG1Tutu or EasyTutu
   installation directory.
2. Run Setup-Gnomes.exe.
3. Follow the installation prompts.

UNINSTALLATION
1. Run Setup-Gnomes.exe.
2. Follow the installation prompts.

DESCRIPTION
There's not much to this mod.  Baldur's Gate I did not have specific gnome
animations.  Instead, gnome characters usually received dwarf animations
(including the joinable NPC gnomes Quayle and Tiax).  This mod changes those
to the relevant gnome animations.  In addition, it adds portraits to gnomes
with dialogue if they do not have portraits either in the standard game or
with the BG1 NPC Project.  The mod also assigns the illusionist kit to all
gnome mages and gives them a script to cast their existing spells if they
didn't have one.  Finally, it fixes a few inconsistent attributes.

The affected characters are:
- Bentley Mirrorshade (Friendly Arm Inn Level 1)
- Delsvirtanyon (Ulgoth's Beard - TotSC only)
- Dushai (Ulgoth's Beard - TotSC only)
- Galtok (Nashkel Mines)
- Gellana Mirrorshade (Friendly Arm Inn Temple of Wisdom)
- Hafiz (Gibberling Mountains)
- Halacan (Gullykin)
- Landrin (Friendly Arm Inn Level 3)
- Mad Arcand (Shipwreck's Coast)
- Neb (SW Baldur's Gate Flaming Fist HQ L1)
- Quayle (Wyrm's Crossing)
- Tiax (SW Baldur's Gate)

VERSION HISTORY
Version 1 (3 March 2007)
- Initial release

BLAH BLAH BLAH
This mod may be redistributed, changed or updated in any fashion except for
profit.  I would appreciate at least an attempted contact though if I'm
still around ;).  None of the portraits are mine - I just grabbed them from
several sources and retouched them in some cases.  I will gladly give credit
or pull them from the mod upon artist request.

Maybe this should be merged into BG1UB or Tweaks or something.  Like I said, there's not much to it.

Miloch, if you want, we can add a mirror of this in BG1 NPC; it definitely could fit in fine either as a core fixes (split with portraits put in the portrait section) or as a separate tweak component. I would still suggest a standalone mod for folks that don't use The BG1 NPC Project, but with flagging and such I think it would be a good fit. We are testing a component to open Cloakwood early (replicating Tweaks work in progress) and simply escape the component if the Tweaks version somehow gets installed first (not recommended, but possible!).

of course, folks could just use your minimod, but it would be nice to add it in. It may be beyond the scope of EasyTutu, but fits the characterization tweaks present in BG1 NPC very well. 8)

Fine with me.  Though normally I would argue against duplication of maintenance, so I would probably discontinue this version if it makes it into a larger mod.  So would someone have to update the Cloakwood thing in two places or will it be moved into the NPC Project?

I thought BG1 NPC was Officially Finished - no new features, just bugfixes, etc., etc. ;D

::) yup, all done with the content... it all depends on how you (I :) ) classify "bugfixes"... I am fine either way, because I see it as a bugfix to implent existing materials that just didn't get adapted. Someone writes all sorts of new dialogue for Bentley, and they have to set up their own shop, but if Bently Mirrorshade is seen as a Dwarf on the BG2 engine when the engine already had gnome animations, well, golly - the whole point of Tutu was to update the engine, and the whole poin of the BG1 NPC Project was to fix up and expand character interactions in Tutu, not BG1 - so I am comfortable on my "slippery slope".

Especially as I have a committee of Project folks who can either say "you go, boy!" or slap my hands when I am overreaching :D

As for Cloakwood, et al, really there is no need to update either direction. The whole flagging thing escapes it and everything uses B_O_I_I_C, so currently on EasyTutu installs a whole set of tph's run that have no effect except top pad the WeiDU.LOG with "not copying X because it didn't change", needed because not everyone uses EasyTutu.

If you are like Louis and want to get it rolled into an existing mod, I think Tweaks is great. I would snag it for BG1 NPC (with author credit, of course!!!) and flag it; if you contact CamDawg amd ask for it to be put into Tweaks too, we can exchange flag filenames.

Including it in either BG1NPC or Tweaks would be fine.  Cam has expressed concerns over Tweaks getting "too big" (whaaa?  you can never have too many tweaks! ;D) so maybe BG1NPC would be better.  Plus the portrait additions would fit in with that existing component.  I was thinking maybe BG1UB since it is sort of a restoration, but someone would have to backport all the BG2 gnome animations to BG1 for it to be compatible with the original version, and I don't really feel like doing that at present (though it might take less work than I'm making of it perhaps).  Plus BG1UB upkeep seems to be a bit lacklustre these days. :o  I don't think it should go in more than one mod though, since as I said, duplication of maintenance is kind of a pain.

The race is set right for these (gnomes) - it's the animations that are off.

Is Enhanced Creatures going to add portraits too? ;)

I found this gem that should lbe on the PPG Mod list by your sig link at SHS.

Good stuff.

A couple of comments:
The sig link was at SHS.
It leads to a thread at PPG.
The credit in the readme leads to a profile link from G3....

Not to mention the mini-mod itself is hosted on my own server :D.  I didn't make a big fuss about promoting this because a) I'm lazy, b) it's just a *little* mod ;), and c) I think cmorgan incorporated it in the next upcoming BG1NPC (it's not substantial enough to be a standalone mod anyway).
Well, he's a smart
Er... no. :o

You know, I have to say that I appreciate the ability to skip the readme. I know this is a silly reason to praise a mod, but it really is quite considerate. :D

After stumbling on threads upon threads of questions that have all been answered in the relevant readmes, I wouldn't start a dance of joy yet. Though, yes, I usually comment out this line when I am testing.

I always wondered why people force the readme on the user *after* installation.  If you wanted to read it, wouldn't you have done so *before* installing the mod, so you knew WTF you were adding to your game?

Probably because WeiDU only allows to show it after. Before it is available on the website. After it is shown mainly to avoid "Where is A and what shall I do after B?" questions. Not that it helps, much. :)
