Portraits for non-playable NPCs mod released! (BG2)
« on: April 23, 2006, 04:32:30 PM »
Hi all,

As promised here is the mod, hosted at Sorcerers.net

http://www.sorcerers.net/Games/dl.php?s=BG2&f=BG2/NPNPC_Portraits-mod.rar

Its not a huge thing but I hope it adds a little bit of character to an already wonderful game.

This should be listed on the modlist.

Is it compatible with EasyTuTu/BGT ?

It should be, because all it does is alter the .cre files to add the portraits. It goes through Weidu so it sholdn't affect Tutu or BGT.

Well, surely its not gonna do much to Tutu given that this is a BG2 mod affecting the BG2 creatures, not the Tutu one which are converted from BG1.

Grim,

you're absolutely right! I am aging (because of too many Wishes spells) and my brain is responding less and less.   ;D

Still it would be nice to have such a Mod introduce nice portarits to TotSC, TuTu or not. And anyway many new portraits introduced by this Mod could apply to some BG1 NPCs too since many same NPCs are there too, no ?

Vanilla BG/TotSC does not display portraits in the dialogue window so it's only possible on Tutu/BGT anyway. One of the problems encountered by the Tutu team was that Edwin was used as a template for many mage creature files--his portrait was assigned to a lot of files. No problem in BG (could never see the portraits for non-joinable NPCs), but after the conversion just about every mage you talked to looked like Edwin. :)

As NiGHTMARE says, see BG1 NPC project for that - it was actually this mod that inspired me to make this one in the first place.

Hey, when I download this and open up WinRar, it says Error:unexpected end of archive, and it can't extract the files.  I opened the portraits folder inside of WinRar and there were only two portraits- aataqah and adalon. :'(

Sounds like the download wasn't complete. I'd give it another go.

I'll contact Taluntain at Sorcerer Place right away.

EDIT: It seems as though the download IS complete and that means that you didn't download it fully yourself... just try again.

Clean install, installed patch + baldurdash, but the mod doesn't work, which is funny cos it worked previously.

keep getting error

That error would indicate that something is looking for Quest Pack's Renal Bloodscalp, which you don't apparently have installed.

My tech know-how ends there, as I couldn't tell you why "d0renal" is necessary for anything (besides QP).

Yep, it seems Parvini made the Quest Pack version of Renal use the new Renal portrait, but forgot to make the code only kick in if you actually have the Quest Pack installed.

That's probably why it worked ok first time, thanks.

I had some installation problems. I've sent the debug file.

Probably operator error. It usually is.

Yay, I cleared my cache and got it to download correctly at last.  ;D

Clean install, installed patch + baldurdash, but the mod doesn't work, which is funny cos it worked previously.

keep getting error

"Error locting resource for copy"
resource [d0renal.cre] not found in key file [./chitin.key]

If you don't want to install that component of QuestPack, use Notepad to open up the SETUP-NPNPC.tp2 file and delete the lines that say

Code: [Select]
COPY_EXISTING ~d0renal.cre~ ~override/d0renal.cre~
WRITE_ASCII 0x34 "renalS"

Then save it, quit the WeiDu installer if you still have it up, and run it again.  That's what worked for me. :)
