BG2 Rest errors due to a mod?
« on: April 15, 2006, 01:29:46 PM »
Well, I'm currently facing a problem with BG2/TOB. Whenever I try to rest while my party doesn't have 100% hp there's an error and BG2 breaks down. However when every member is completely healthy it works as intended.

Does anyone know if one of the following mods I have installed could be responsible for the errors? And eventually even how to fix it?

1pp
Ascension
Improved Battles
com_encounters
d0Questpack
d0Tweak
Dark ritual
eSeries
gMinion
G3Tweaks
Imoen
Oversight
PlanarSphereMod
Unfinsihed buisness
Weimer ...
...Ease
...Itemupgrade
...Solauflein
...Tactics

Any help is appreciated. :O

I very vaguely remember having this exact problem. I think mine was caused by not having the most recent version of BGII.
You didn't mention it, but do you have the lastest version of BGII installed as well as the various fixpacks?

Well, i'm using a BG2/TOb patched with the (as far as i know) most recent TOB patch 26498 and the ToB Fixpack112 installed right after patching my game.

My guess is that eventually the regeneration text string in which you get the information that healing abilities were used is bugged due to some mod that edits the dlg. Maybe one of the mods doesn't work with a european BG2?

Anyway, I don't know where to check, nor where to fix this stuff. I already tried a reinstallation, but it didn't work with the savegame, nor with a new gamestart. :(
I' really clueless here.

Now that's crazy. I just rested while some of my party had like 6-10 points of damage. The game did break down, resting was completely normal and worked fine.
I bashed Yoshimos face a bit with my mainchar, gave him some serious injuries and tryed resting again. The error occurred again. Seems like my party just can't rest with major injuries. Anyone has any clue what might be responsible?

Darn it, no editing allowed to guests. :/

Of course the game did *not* break down on the 6-10 damage rest, I forgot the "not". Sorry for the trouble.

Not crashing from the 6-10 is probably because you healed normally from just resting.
I don't think a misplaced string would be the cause, if it was, you would just see some weird text in place of the healing one, not a crash.

Well, the crappy way to figure it out would be to do a brand new install, and install the mods one at a time, checking after each install to make sure that you can rest fine. When it crashes, you know that the last mod you installed caused the problem.

Also, make sure to check to make sure it doesn't crash before you install anything, and once you have found the mod that crashes the game, do a clean install again, and install that mod by itself. This is to make sure that its not a conflict with another mod that's causing the crash.

The cuplrit might be Dark Ritual, I know that I had some problems with that mod, but it's been so long since I installed it that I don't remember what the issue was.

The problem might be some memorised spell you need to rememorise.
I don't know what is that dark ritual mod, but if it offers spells, then try to completely remove them from your memory, or edit your saved game to clean them up.
Or fix the spell level of those spells ;)

Btw, as it was you who made that hide spell, it could be that you screwed yourself :P

Hehe, yeah that was the issue. The problem were the monk innate abilitys from the oversight mod. Somehow they caused those errors.

Now everything works fine again, thanks. :D

It would be good to report the bug at G3's Oversight Forum...

I do not know for sure the real cause but I would say that PlanarSphereMod is the culprit - it either is the root cause or interferes with Oversight - it does contain some funky spells and a few just do not work, on my build anway. My 0.02 Euros.

I have all but 3 of the same mods installed with no prob. Recommend you switch your order to
Code: [Select]
Imoen
...PlanarSphereMod
...Oversight
Unfinsihed buisness

or new install order based on one I know that works (re: mine!):
Code: [Select]
// pushed *com_encounters* to the top because I don't know what it is)
com_encounters

1pp
Dark ritual
PlanarSphereMod
Ascension
Weimer ......Ease
Unfinsihed buisness
Weimer ......Itemupgrade
Weimer ......Solauflein
Imoen
Weimer ......Tactics
Improved Battles
d0Questpack
eSeries
gMinion
d0Tweak
G3Tweaks
Oversight

If this is the case, let me just clarify one thing. PS only screws up the oversight mod if it is installed AFTER?
The reason I'm asking is because I'm currently working on PS, and if there is an issue, I would like to know about it sooner rather then later.

EDIT:
Having looked at Oversight again, I don't see anyway for PS to have interfered with it. I would really appreciate it if you could provide me with your:
a: BGII version
b: any fixpacks installed
c: party makeup
d: any odd spells you have memorized
You already listed the mods, so I'll start with that  :)

If this is caused by PS, it's a bug that I haven't been able to replicate. It happened to me, but it was so long ago that I have no idea what the conditions were. But I would like to fix it if at all possible.
