I'm keeping a step-by-step account of my Tutu and BG installations so someone can tell me where I go wrong.

Pre:  ..\Black Isle\ has only ID2 and Fallout 2.

Installation

1.  Install BG1/TotSC (3-disc set, release version 1.3.5521)
  -Checked Custom
    --Selected all options (equivalent full)
  -Default directory
2.  Install BG2 (5-disc set)
  -Full Install
  -Default Directory
3.  Install ToB
  -Full Install

Patching and Mods

4.  Install ToB patch 26498
5.  Install Mods
  -BG1
    --NONE
  -BG2
--Bonus Merchants, Spell Table Fix, XP Cap Remover, Gaider's Bhaalpowers, Imoen Thieving Skills Fix, Staff of Magi Fix, Dungeon-Be-Gone, Chloe, Hubelpot, Kelsey SoA, Kelsey ToB, ToB Game Text Update
6.  Copy Saved Games to BG1 "saved" Directory

Tutu
7.  Place Tutu files in BG2 Directory
-configuration file set to default directories
8.  Run bg1tutu.exe
  -Keep 2 rare NPC sounds
  -No optional kits
  -English

--Backs up override, dialog.tlk, chitin.key
--Long wait
--Bunch of file conversions
--Closes

Okay, now when I run baldur.exe or BGMain2.exe from my BG1 directory, it uses the BG1-style interface.
If I run baldur.exe or BGMain.exe from my BG2 directory, it asks for my ToB CD.

What am I doing wrong?

Why did you opt for a Tutu v 4 conversion instead of Easy Tutu?

It really does make life easier. Of course, not everyone can use it.

Tomorrow evening, I'll scrap my installs and try again with EasyTutu.  I have all my mods and saves stored externally, so they won't be a problem.

Even so, can anyone tell me what I'm not doing properly?

It' s nothing wrong, it seems to me. You need to have the ToB CD in the CD Drive in order to play the game...

Unfortunately not. I, too, started out trying to install Tutu v4, only to find that I'd mangled my installation beyond any recovery. I was quite persistent, and it took a lot of doing, but I managed to wreck both BG1 and BG2 in the process. I may never know how.

After uinstalling everything and reinstalling/patching again, I decided to try Easy Tutu, and it was completely painless.

But please be aware that once you do install Easy Tutu, you are going to have a completely separate directory called BaldursGateTutu. If you want to add mods to your Tutu installation, like TutuFix, BG1 NPC Project, etc., you must install them in your Tutu directory.

Happy installing.

Hello -

This thread has links to useful EasyTutu info.

As for its purpose, it isn't intended as a "Tutu for dummies."  Yes, considerable effort went into making it easier to achieve a fully functional installation; but a considerable amount of bug fixing, etc. has been done as well.
